Birth: Maria Theresa was born into the Habsburg family as the daughter of Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor and Elisabeth Christine of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel.

Reign as Sovereign:

Accession to the Throne: When her father, Charles VI, died on 20 October 1740, Maria Theresa succeeded him as the ruler of the Habsburg monarchy, which included Austria, Hungary, Bohemia, Transylvania, and several other territories. Despite the provisions of the Pragmatic Sanction of 1713 that secured her right to inherit the throne, her succession was contested by several European powers, leading to the War of the Austrian Succession.
War of the Austrian Succession: After her father’s death, several European powers, including Prussia, Bavaria, and France, contested her inheritance. Frederick II of Prussia (later known as Frederick the Great) invaded Silesia, an affluent region of the Habsburg monarchy, sparking the War of the Austrian Succession (1740–1748). - Commerce and Agriculture: Maria Theresa promoted the development of commerce and agriculture, which helped strengthen the economy and the empire’s international standing.

Religious Views: As a devout Catholic, Maria Theresa was deeply committed to the Catholic Church. However, she had a paternalistic and conservative approach to religion. She was hostile to Jews and Protestants, and at times, she ordered their expulsion from certain regions of the empire.
Family: Maria Theresa was married to Francis I, who became Holy Roman Emperor, but she held the primary power. Their marriage produced a number of children, including Joseph II, who succeeded her as Holy Roman Emperor and became known for his own reforms.
